I spent years in Haiti caring for children of all ages, including the rejected newborns on my doorstep. Living day by day in the constant struggle trying to alleviate their suffering from poverty caused by natural disasters, governmental and social collapse. As a result, one of my daughters came from among those beautiful babies to whom this piece is dedicated celebrating her beauty and found serenity through this colorful and peaceful arrangement. The aged leaf represent the time that passed before her rescue. The moonstone is the traveler's stone which represents her journey for one country to another. The flower is in fact one of nature's hidden gems, found at the end of a coconut palm fruit. It is usually discarded and forgotten, yet so beautiful and full of potential exemplifying the story of many children everywhere, but this one was not forgotten, as countless others who are rescued and adopted into a forever family throughout the world. Thus, the flower on this piece represents Evangeline's amazing talents and potential, which she has now the ability to explore, the life she can aspire to, the person she can become, because, as so many, she is a jewel who was hidden and even discarded, but not forgotten. She was found and brought out into a life of opportunity. This piece celebrates adoption.
